Club Activities
Fly Fishing
Club trips are held on a regular basis as scheduled in our events calendar and include regular inter-club competitions in a friendly and interactive environment. Besides day trips the club also conducts weekend trips and longer trips to Tasmania, Snowy Valley area and New Zealand. New and inexperienced fly fishers are provided mentor guidance from an experienced club member who share their knowledge and experience with fly fishers of all skill levels.

Fly Tying
The club offers fly tying classes for novice, intermediate and advanced tiers. The club’s team of fly tiers will instruct new members on the art of fly tying. Fly tying nights are conducted twice monthly (2nd & 4th Wednesdays of the month), with a different fly chosen each month to demonstrate different techniques. Materials and equipment are provided, for a small cost, to our members on the night. Find out when these are held in the club events calendar. Activity Meetings
Activity Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of the month at Yarra Bend Park – Fairlea Reserve – Netball Courts & Pavilion, Cnr Yarra Bend Park Rd & Fairlea Rd Fairfield. The meeting commences with an update to members on club matters and provides a forum for member feedback, planning trips, fishing reports and general matters. Following the meeting members usually have an activity such as a guest speaker and of course discuss the latest fly-fishing activity/information with members over a cup of coffee or tea and biscuits. This gathering also offers the chance to take advantage of our extensive library. Find out when these are held in the club events calendar.

Casting Tuition
An open invitation is extended to anyone interested in fly fishing to come down to our casting pool at Yarra Bend Park for fly casting instruction from our skilled fly casting instructors. Fly casting tuition is available most weeks and non members can send an enquiry to our email address [email protected]
The fly-casting pool situated in Yarra Bend Park, at the end of Fairlea Rd Fairfield (Melway map 2D/H2) offers an ideal venue to try and to compare fly fishing equipment on water. Find out when these are held in the club events calendar. |
Tournament Fly Casting
The Red Tag Fly Fishers’ Club was established in 1932 and has a well-earned reputation amongst fly fishers and fly casters throughout Australia. Over the years, the club has produced numerous medal winners at World Fly-Casting Championships, overseas and in Australia. Members are encouraged to participate in competition casting and tuition is available.
