RMIT Vocational Education -
Building Design
 Class of 2025

Fly Fishing Precinct Design Project

Red Tag Fly Fishers and RMIT Vocational Education Building Design  students have embarked on a multi year collaboration resulting in an annual student Red Tag Fly Fishing precinct design project.

In March, some eighty 2nd year building design students from RMIT attended the Red Tag Casting pools in Fairfield, to begin developing design solutions for the precinct Clubrooms.

The design project forms part of their course grade in commercial design.

The students' project duration from initial briefing, site recording, concept, development and presentation is 10 weeks with final designs being presented to Red Tag members and guests on  11 June 2025

This will be the first time RMIT Vocational Education Building Design students have tackled the Fly Fishing precinct pavilion concept, but it is not the program's first community scheme.

Previously, building design students have undertaken projects in Castlemaine, Kyneton, Chirnside Park, Monbulk and Kallista.

This is the first iteration of student projects, and it is envisaged that this task will run for a further 2 or 3 years, until the project brief and course content has been dialled in, and all options explored.

It is hoped that these student projects can be utilised as a visualisation tool for ongoing discussions around the development of the site, and ultimately a home for Red Tag Fly Fishers.

Design and Presentation night

Final presentations to members and guests were held on   Wednesday June 11th with over 100 people in attendance for the student presentations and awards.  The night was a fantastic success with passionate talks from the finalists and the club room decorated with many well considered and thoughtful proposals.

Red Tag thanks RMIT, the students, members and guests for their support, encouragement and interest in this very valued work.  The output of this project will assist the precinct development project with inspiration and concepts that can be further progressed over time.
