Access and Mobility at Red Tag Fly Fishers

Red Tag Fly Fishers welcomes members and visitors who use a wheelchair or have limited mobility.

We run from two sites in Yarra Bend Park, Fairfield, and they are very different when it comes to access. Rather than give you a single reassuring sentence, here is the honest picture of both, so you can plan your visit and know what to expect before you arrive.

✔ Wheelchair accessible

Club rooms — Fiona Richardson Pavilion

Fairlea Netball Precinct, corner of Yarra Bend Road and Fairlea Road, Fairfield VIC 3078 (Yarra Bend Park)

  • Four designated disability parking bays are available directly outside the building.
  • A ramp runs from the parking area to the entry, so there are no steps on the route in.
  • Once inside, the club room floor is level.
  • There is a wheelchair accessible toilet inside the pavilion.

This is where our indoor programme runs — the monthly club meeting and both fly tying nights. If you use a wheelchair, you can get to all of it.

Red Tag Casting Pool

Fairlea Road, Fairfield (Yarra Bend Park) — roughly 350 metres east of the club rooms, at the end of the road

We would rather be straight with you than have you arrive to an unpleasant surprise:

  • There are no designated disability parking spaces anywhere at the casting pool.
  • The ground between the parking area and the pool is uneven and unsealed.
  • In winter it is frequently boggy and wet, and at times genuinely unsafe for a wheelchair.

None of that means “don’t come”. You are welcome at the pool and we would like you there. It does mean we would like to hear from you first, so we can plan the visit with you.

If you would like to come to the casting pool

Contact us beforehand. Get in touch with the President or the Secretary through the contact page on our website. We will talk through the parking, the state of the ground on the day, and what help you need, and make sure you can get to the pool safely.

If the weather has been wet, please contact us before you set out. If the ground is not safe, we will tell you honestly — and we will work out another way to get you casting.

Getting here

To the club rooms (Fiona Richardson Pavilion)

Enter Yarra Bend Park and follow Yarra Bend Road to the corner of Fairlea Road. The netball precinct and pavilion are on the corner. The designated disability parking bays are in the car park beside the building, with the ramp leading to the entry.

To the casting pool

Continue east along Fairlea Road, past the netball precinct, to the end of the road — about 350 metres. The casting pool is beyond the parking area. There are no marked accessible bays here, and the last stretch to the water is over unsealed, uneven ground.

Ask us — we would rather you did

If you are not sure whether a session will work for you, please ask. No question is too small, and we will give you a straight answer rather than a hopeful one.

Contact the President or the Secretary through the contact page on our website.
